This study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J9140106) analyzes the user trends in the mininotebook and portable PC markets, and the use of PC and mobile phones for ecommerce based on the results of an IDC study conducted in June 2009 among Japan home PC users."To notebook users, Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (CULV) portable PCs are inexpensive and have large-enough screens. To mininotebook users, however, they are expensive and of little interest. The results of a price sensitivity measurement (PSM) analysis conducted on notebook PCs show that CULV PCs are priced within the optimal price band of notebooks. While CULV PCs are not a threat to mininotebook PCs, they are likely to compete with general portable PCs," says Hirotoshi Asano, senior market analyst, PC, Mobile, and Client Solution, IDC Japan.
